“On The Road” to open in Cannes

Producer Charle Gillibert has announced the following, via Twitter: “Am happy to share with you : OTR french release the 23rd of may, more to come.”

OTR? That’s On the Road, directed by Walter Salles, and starring Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley, and Garrett Hedlund. As for the May 23 released date in France, does that mean On the Road will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival? Possibly. Cannes 2012 runs from May 16-27.

SDCC: Elysium Viral Launches

One of the first major viral events of Comic-Con 2011 has been spotted in the form of a poster. Advertising a company called Armadine, the ARG involves a (pending) application process that looks for “zero g welders, mega structure engineers, quantum networkers” and experts in “zero g coupling and multi-generational planning”.

The game ties into the upcoming Neill Blomkamp project Elysium, set for release on March 01, 2013. Starring Sharlto Copley, Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga and Diego Luna, Blomkamp’s followup to District 9 is said to be set in the far future on another planet will feature many sociopolitical ideas wrapped up inside an action film.

Alice joins Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium

Deadline reports that Alice Braga has been cast in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium, coming to theaters on March 1, 2013.

Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, Wagner Moura, and William Fichtner also star in this upcoming sci-fi thriller that tells the tale of what happens when a battle ensues between aliens and humans for the right to colonize another planet.

Walter Salles’ ‘On The Road’ Unlikely To Debut At Cannes

Put simply, Waltes Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac‘s “On The Road” is a film we’re anticipating this year with as much excitement as any other. Unfortunately it looks like that wait will have to be a tad longer as any surprise appearance at the Croisette this May is unlikely, with one of the film’s supporting cast members, Alice Braga, telling Pilula Pop the production is working towards a 2012 release after recently wrapping principal photography.

That schedule would put the film in line for a fall festival unveiling rather than Cannes this May—a sentiment reportedly backed by the pic’s French distributor’s MK2 —making for another major Croisette “dropout” alongside Wong Kar-wai‘s “The Grand Masters” and Pedro Almodóvar‘s “The Skin I Live In.” Braga, when asked about whether or not the film would be in black and white as Salles had valiantly campaigned for (and despite early photos hinting at such), said “No! It’s colorful!” [Source]

While digging for new updates, I found out this 13 min length interview Alice did to Omelete (a Brazilian site about cinema). The interview is in Portuguese, and I’ll be working in an english transcript as soon I have time for it.

Alice in a new Brazilian movie

During the “The Rite” press here in Brazil, we was told Alice is attached in a brand new project. It’s an adaptation of “Vale Tudo, o Som e a Furia de Tim Maia”, a biographic book about Tim Maia, a late Brazilian singer. Here at youtube you can watch the video of “Vale Tudo”, the song that named the book.

So, there’s no much information regarding this movie, yet. Alice will play Tim Maia’s wife and production will start next July. The movie is planned to be released in March/2012, and will be directed by Mauro Lima.

Here’s the interview Alice did about the project. It’s in Portuguese language, but there’s no new information than the ones I’ve posted.
